Mentoring

Who is mentoring for?
This service is aimed at new social work graduates and early career social workers, who would like to build a professional connection with a more senior social worker, enhance their connection to their emerging social work identity and reflect on their career direction.

What is mentoring?
Mentoring is a formal arrangement set up between a newer worker and a more experienced worker.  This is for the purpose of sharing knowledge, experience and ideas related to social work and how we, as social workers practise. Mentoring may include discussion about a newer worker's future career plans or options, sharing ideas on how we negotiate workplaces and different work contexts and gaining another person's perpective about the work.

Mentoring is not the same as clinical supervision as it is not focused on clinical issues or case presentations and may be negotiated on a less regular basis than on-going clinical supervision. However, like supervision, this is a relationship-based service.

How does it work?
Mentoring sessions are provided either face-to-face from my rooms in Malvern or online, depending on the mentee's preference.

Arranging mentoring
I recommend that we start with a get-to-know-you phone call, for us to talk about your needs and how I work.  There is no charge for our phone chat but it allows us to decide if we match and if we wish to work together, before we set up a time for a first session.  Sessions are generally one hour in length.
